Pipkens having fun

There’s nothing like having fun at work, and that is exactly what Chad Pipkens is doing now, high-fiving and fist-bumping his cameraman.

The reason why is the increased bass activity in his area. Pipkens is fishing a bar on the main river channel. Hydrilla is growing on the back side of it, and specifically on each side of a series of current seams, or ditches, where the bass are staging to feed on passing baitfish.

“Today should be fantastic, because the bass are moving around in the cloud cover, and it’s just like it was in practice,” he said.

What’s more, Pipkens noted the bite is more aggressive, as the bass are taking the lures by mouth. Yesterday, and previous days, Pipkens caught many of his keepers on the trailer hook of a bladed jig.
