Rojas: 9-pounder changes everything

After seeing Timmy Horton lose a 9-pounder on Bassmaster LIVE this morning, a quote yesterday from Dean Rojas, of all people, now appears drenched with irony.

In summing up his Day 2 bag of 25-4, which included a bass weighing exactly 9 pounds, Rojas said, “You catch a 9-pounder, that changes everything!”

If you miss a 9-pounder, like Horton did, with Rojas watching from nearby, it might change everything too, in an unfortunate direction for Horton. And furthering the irony, Rojas admitted he almost made a mistake in landing the 9-pounder Friday.

“I tried to flip it in the boat,” said Rojas, with a smile. “That didn’t work out too well.”

“You tried to boat-flip a 9-pounder?” asked a reporter.

“He was coming fast,” Rojas explained. “A lot of times you can do that with a big one, if it’s coming toward the boat. He got halfway in and went back in the water.”

Further illustrating the importance of one big bite, the other four bass in Rojas’ 25-4 bag he estimated to weigh 6, 4-plus, 2-plus and 2-plus.
