More than fishing

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I know I did. Thanks for all the kind words on last week’s “Night Before Blastoff” poem. Getting positive feedback from these blogs means an awful lot!

The past couple of weeks have been really good because I have been able to relax and spend time with my family. I always have a little more time on my hands this time of year, so I like to reflect on the year and think about the upcoming year.

2011 was a great year. I achieved my fishing goals for the year, was pretty successful with my landscape business, but most importantly strengthened my relationship with God. In the past, I have let fishing and work consume my thought process. I learned this year to keep my priorities in line and focus on what is really important in life.

I believe that it is important to have a strong work ethic and to always do the best you can in all you do. At the same time though, success and money don’t always equal happiness. True happiness comes from relationships with God, family, and friends.

Having a personal relationship with God is critical in my life. He guides me each and every day. I can put my trust in him and know that he has a plan for my life. I believe that if I seek his glory first, then all other things will fall into place. “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:33.

2012 is going to be an awesome year. My priorities for the new year are to grow closer to God, build new relationships with people I meet, and just embrace everyday. Catching bass along the way will just be icing on the cake.
