Lane’s evolving topwater strategy

Everything has fallen into place so far for Chris Lane. He’s got 10 pounds in the boat, including a 4 pounder, and it’s obvious the shad spawn might still be going on.

Lane has an early topwater bite that’s contingent on that shad spawn. It’s nocturnal and disappears later in the morning. For Lane that’s okay because he transitions into another equally as productive strategy using the same lure.

On Day 2 he lamented over the wind blowing too hard on his areas. He also commented that when the wind subsided in the afternoon that his bite would improve. It did.

Today’s forecast calls for calm wind until later this afternoon. Even then it’s only predicted to blow 5-10 mph.

When the shad spawn goes away with the sun that helps him, too. The bass move to shady spots and specifically ambush points where they can snipe away at baitfish passing by. Those ambush points, for Lane are casting targets in the form of grassy points extending out from the shoreline.

Lane also says he’s learning something new and building on his strategy every day.

With two days behind him and another coming up, so far successful, it’ll be interesting to see what new twists he adds to this evolving and producitve pattern.
