Hide and seek

Andy Crawford is still in “The Swamp” where he is attempting to navigate the maze of gnarly cypress forests.

“It’s hard to find anybody in this place,” he told me.

He just lucked up on Jamie Hartman, who provided this interesting bit of info. During practice, he scouted here in midday and had the rod “ripped out” of his hands by aggressive largemouth. This morning it’s not happening.

“There is too much shadow on the water,” he told Andy. “When the sun gets higher it creates distinct shadows, and I believe that is what concentrates the fish better.”

Better, as in the sun helps create distinct ambush points around the flooded forest known as this place. Hartman told Andy his plan is to catch the highly sought 12-pound limit, and then go out to the river, where he claimed to have an even better bite.
