DeFoe back on top

Ott DeFoe would like nothing more than to better his solid 10th-place finish just two weeks ago at the first Bassmaster Elite Series event held near his east Tennessee home.

While Timmy Horton and Dean Rojas are experiencing a slow go on the south shore of the lake, to the extreme north it’s much different for DeFoe.

He’s now back in the lead, according to BASSTrakk, with a limit weighing 14 pounds. What’s important to note is the fishing day is basically broken down into two sessions. Those are early morning and mid-afternoon. The latter session is when the fishing heats up down south.

DeFoe is mixing things up between a topwater and now a fluke-style lure fished weightless. He’s fishing it the classic way for here, which is making long casts and basically dead-sticking the lure. The less movement imparted by the angler all the better with this technique.

What else is worth noting is how DeFoe might carry a good day into Championship Sunday. All eyes will be on the weather. As I mentioned earlier, the gusty winds could dirty up the water down south.
