Anything can happen

Everyone understands the idea of an angler getting on a roll. It’s those times when an angler just seems untouchable. He can’t do anything wrong and things just seem to fall in place.

I’m not sure derbies can share those traits. But if they do Bassmaster and the Elite Series seem to be on a roll of its own. I’m including the Classic as an Elite event. You may remember the last Classic: Edwin Evers pulls off a magical day to win.

Now here we are a few weeks later and the magical day has hit Rick Clunn.

If this were a 3-day derby, like the Classic, then Clunn would have another win notched in his belt. Instead, we get to see the direction the proverbial “roll” will take. Will Clunn hang on to the magic? Or will one of the others below him put together something crazy big?

Anything can happen. That’s the nature of a roll.

When you put that together with the St. Johns River then the odds of something really crazy (as in magical) go up exponentially.

The overall point is, if you’ve picked a winner yet then you are probably a little premature. Same if you’ve written off one of these final 12 anglers.

If you are a fishing fan today could be one of the most exciting in the history of BASS. There won’t be many minutes you will want to miss.
