Memorial winner to receive trophy named in honor of first BASS member Don Butler
Rayo Breckenridge of Paragould, Ark., out fished the field of 26 fishermen to earn a $15,000 paycheck. The third annual Bassmaster Classic was held Oct. 24-26, 1973, at Clarks Hill, in South Carolina.
Don Butler of Tulsa, Okla., claimed the Bassmaster Classic for his first tournament win, and a $10,000 check. The second annual Classic was held Oct. 25-27, 1972 .
The first Bassmaster Classic was held in Lake Mead, Nevada, in 1971. Bobby Murray of Hot Springs, Ark., won the inaugural Bassmaster Classic with a catch of 17 bass weighing 43 pounds, 11 ounces.
